Description
See Lord, Civil War Collector’s Encyclopedia, p.113. 5 ¾” height with glass body. The top wrapped in split cane and cord matrix to protect the wearer in case of breakage. The base with removable pewter cup. Pewter neck and cork lined screw off top. Sipping whiskey was a common remedy for decayed teeth which were prevalent among soldiers. It also bolstered courage in battle. This is a fine example from an old Michigan collection.
