079-1220-7540, Remington Model 1858 New Model single action Rollin White patent cartridge conversion revolver, .46 cal RF, 5 shot., 8” octagon barrel, blue finish, brass trigger guard, wood grips, 126xxx. The barrel address and cylinder show crisp markings. This gun is in overall fine condition showing 35% blue mixing to dark brown patina on metal surfaces with some scattered areas of erosion and light pinpricks, Very good action and overall bright bore with scattered fine surface spots; the underside of the barrel is stamped with conversion number “289 S” with “D” and “R” proofs on the barrel, grips are good with small mars and knackering on the butt from hammering nails and “JCS” is professionally stamped on the base of each grip. Fine overall. I have seen this same stamping on other guns over the years. Often representing an express company, large ranch or other entity that purchased such guns for use by employees. No idea what these markings mean, but someone out there might. It has the patent marking on the cylinder. Fine overall.
